Horse Painting

There is something to be learned from everything

May 23, 2021

A fellow volunteer of the horse sanctuary is training for her certification in equine therapy and asked if I would be willing to participate in a session that involved painting with a horse.    I thought it sounded like fun and imagine my surprise when I discovered it was painting on a horse!   (paints use were safe for the horse and brushed right off)  I had no idea what I was going to paint and we began with just a moment of quiet.  I felt relaxed and happy with Cappy (the totally patient horse and very good boy).  Feeling that way, I began to paint a heart over his shoulder to represent what I was feeling about him, the sanctuary and the beautiful day.   I felt on top of the world, so I painted a mountain range with a bright sun over top.   Then I thought about how difficult the last couple of years has been and my struggles and I painted a dark valley at the base of the mountains.    I was then reminded of how God's gift of the sanctuary, the horses (and especially my boy, Comet) and my friends there carried me through those really dark times and I painted rays of sunshine coming from the sun and leading to the heart, filling the heart and overflowing from the heart.  It was a reminder of how God's love works through so many things and ultimately, saves us.    Thank you to Circle P Sanctuary, Brenda and Cappy!   It was a unique and awesome experience.
