Let me introduce you to Tulsi (Holy Basil)

September 17, 2020

doTERRA introduced Tulsi in their 2020 Pursue convention kit. I love basil and could have imagined calling it holy. But there is a Holy Basil, called Tulsi, or O. sanctum. Interesting that within a week of this product launch, I receive my monthly issue of Natural Herbal Living ezine and guess what is featured? Tulsi!

This edition outlines some of the benefits of Tulsi. It is one of the most widely used adaptogens (helps the body handle stress) and has a history of being used to help people. It has been used in human research trials and found to reduce the severity of stress-related symptoms. It has antioxidant properties of eugenol and ursolic acid which help to mitigate the effect of environmental exposures. It has been shown in animal studies to reduce the release of pro-inflammatory mediators, thereby acting as an anti-inflammatory.

There were many recipes to use with Tulsi but one that caught my eye was to add fresh Tulsi to a jar of raw honey. After a few day the honey will have extracted the liquid, flavors and medicinal value from the Tulsi. Add a teaspoon to a cup of hot water for instant Tulsi tea. Yum!
